Announcing the 2021 SPM Results report, director of Education Datuk nor Zamani Abdol Hamid said it was the first SPM to reinstate laboratory exams for science subjects after the implementation of the Standard Curriculum for Secondary Schools (KSSM) in 2017.

This means that in the 2021 SPM, the four subjects of Physics, chemistry, biology and additional Science will be restored to the laboratory examination of paper 3, instead of the original paper 3 written laboratory examination.

The SPM Mandarin test also includes a speaking and listening section, while the English test is based on the Common European Language Reference Standard (CEFR).

Nor Zamani said this year's results could not be compared with those of previous years because they were based on different evaluation criteria.

She said the SPM's national average score (GPN) in 2021 was 4.86, and the lower the national average, the better the performance.
