Airline Ticket Price

The public complained that the airline ticket price of the one-way economy class ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu ranged from RM295 to RM1,234, while the price of a one-way ticket during the peak period of Christmas, i.e. 21-26, was, as high as RM445 to RM880.

The Sarawak Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said in a media interview that the Ministry of Transport will continue to monitor airfares and must set a reasonable top price.

Lee Kim Shin said that according to the information provided by the public, on the 14th of this month, from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching in the evening flight economy class ticket price as low as RM 408, the highest is RM 1629; the same day business class ticket price as low as RM 1376, the highest is RM 1843. But by 6:20 pm, at the same time, the economy class airfare was adjusted to RM519, and the business class airfare was RM1843.

The airline tickets vary, AirAsia one-way economy class ticket price on the 31st of this month is RM295 to RM995; Malaysia Airlines is between RM307 to RM1234.

Lee Kim Shin also said he could understand that the airline's ticketing system has the lowest and highest fares, but there must be a ceiling price for the airline ticket. The Malaysian Aviation Commission needs to discuss with the airlines to set a ceiling price for the tickets.
