Anwar said he did not intend to insult any political figures, nor did he mention any of them by name. Nor was he slanderous; the national debt total was a conclusion drawn from a review of the slip-ups. After going through the documents, that is why some projects were delayed, re-examined, or cancelled.

He also explained that the flood mitigation project was because most of the people affected by the flood were poor, and most were Malays. He also said that when he came to work at the Ministry of Finance, he was told that the flood mitigation project had been approved but not yet implemented.

He stressed that the country's spending must be put to good use and that the management of the country should be orderly, rule-based, and in the right direction. So if he finds a controversial company or project that has yet to be answered, he will ask for an extension or re-examination.
