Shen Keting was charged with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving on the Johor Bahru Inner Ring Road at 3:20 a.m. on February 18, 2017. The eight teenagers who died in the crash were between the ages of 13 and 16. The Court of Appeal granted a stay of sentence on April 18, allowing Shen Ke Ting to be released on bail of RM10,000 and a surety. ​
