Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported. EU regulators will ban Apple from preventing music providers from pushing users from the App Store to other subscription options. The rules are said to be published next year. EU regulators are in the process of finalizing the rule.
Apple Could Face Fines
Apple could face fines of up to 10 percent of its annual sales if the rule is formalized. Previously, EU fines have rarely been as high as 10 percent, but the order requiring companies to change their business models could be even harsher.
The report notes that the EU's investigation into the matter was triggered by a complaint from Sweden's Spotify Technology four years ago. The company claimed that they raised the price of a monthly subscription to cover costs associated with Apple's alleged control over how the app store operates.
