Malaysia Payment Network Sdn Bhd has confirmed that from November 1, merchants will be charged a transaction fee for all payments received through the DuitNow QR code. Many merchants are unaware of this and may consider switching to cash, They may even pass the fee to consumers.
DuitNow QR Code Transaction Fee Will Impact Merchants' Cost
Persatuan Peniaga Kopi, Restoran dan Bar, Johore Bahru President Wong Chun-fat said in an interview that the relevant unit should discuss with the business owners before deciding. Because this will affect the business cost, and may be transferred to consumers.
MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong pointed out in a Facebook post that DuitNow will increase the burden on the people if it imposes a fee. Most merchants using DuitNow do not have credit card machines or are street vendors, and it would be unfair to them to imposed the fee.
PayNet confirmed in a post that the merchant discount waiver for DuitNow QR code payments will be lifted. They also clarified that reports in the online media that the DuitNow QR instant transfer payment service imposes a fee on transactions using credit or debit cards were inaccurate.
They said that it is the lifting of the MDR waiver incentive, not the imposition of new or additional fees.
