The country reported 4,006 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 yesterday (24th), bringing the total number of confirmed cases nationwide to 4,431,073. According to the Ministry of Health, the state with the highest number of new cases yesterday was Selangor with 2,281 cases. It was followed by Kuala Lumpur with 439 cases and Negeri Sembilan with 261 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Noor Hisham said the current number of confirmed cases in the country is on a downward trend, thanks to the high vaccination rate of the people.

He pointed out that from July to August 2021, the Delta variant virus invaded our country and the number of confirmed cases increased.

“This means that high vaccination rates are effective and can lead to better control of the spread of the new crown epidemic, reduction of Delta variant virus infections and lower confirmation rates.”

Noor Hisham said this while attending a media briefing on excess mortality in Malaysia during the COVID-19 pandemic hosted by the Ministry of Health today.

He said all the preventive measures taken by the Ministry of Health during the period from March 2020 to June 2021, during the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak in our country, should be applauded.

The relaxation of the SOP was carefully formulated Kelly: unwilling to use the epidemic prevention efforts in vain

Health Minister Kelly stressed that the relaxation of several standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be announced on Wednesday was done safely and prudently, and the government did not want to make mistakes and waste past epidemic prevention efforts.

He said the Ministry of Health had discussed it in detail and would present the recommendations to the Cabinet on Wednesday, with an announcement to be made once it was approved.

Kelly said this at a press conference today after attending the GEGAR-18 campaign to end the new generation of smoking at Seriputra Township High School.

Regarding the pilgrimage, Kelly pointed out that as the Saudi Arabian government imposes conditions on pilgrims this year, the Ministry of Health will issue new protocols: “We will also ensure that there are enough health personnel to assist pilgrims there.”

At present, my country has obtained a quota of 14,306 pilgrimages approved by the Saudi government. The conditions that must be met include that pilgrims must be under the age of 65 and have completed the Covid-19 vaccination.
