Jolie's description of abusive behaviour on a private flight has emerged in a cross-complaint separate from their ongoing divorce amid the couple's spat over the French home and winery they jointly own.

A Pitt representative, who was not authorized to speak publicly, vehemently denied Jolie's allegations, calling them “another rehash that only harms the family.”

The allegations of abuse on the plane were first made public shortly after the flight, but initial reports were vague, details were sealed in divorce papers, and investigations by both the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services found no action against Pitt was necessary.

After a closed-door trial in which the allegations were made public, a judge awarded Pitt 50-50 custody of the children. But the appeals court subsequently disqualified the private judge for failing to disclose a possible conflict of interest following Jolie's motion, invalidating the decision.

More details of the allegations were made public earlier this year when Jolie filed a lawsuit against the FBI over a Freedom of Information Act request.

On September 14, 2016, Jolie, Pitt, and their six children travelled from Chateau Miraval to Los Angeles, according to the document reported by New York Times.

“Pitt's aggressive behaviour began even before the family arrived at the airport, and Pitt had a confrontation with one of the children. After the flight took off, Jolie approached Pitt and asked him what was wrong,” the document said. “Pitt accused her of being too respectful to the children and verbally attacked her.”

Later, it said, “He pulled her into the bathroom and started yelling at her. Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her against the bathroom wall.”

The counterclaim alleges that one of the children, ages 8 to 15, verbally defended Jolie, which Pitt lashed out.

In the days that followed, Jolie provided two FBI investigators with reports of the flight. It appeared in a heavily redacted report the agency later released.

Among them was a photo of Jolie with a bruised elbow and a “rug-burn type injury ” on her hand. In the letter, she said she saw Pitt having two or three drinks, but said he seemed articulate and not drunk.

They had been romantic partners for ten years when they married in 2014. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 and a judge declared them single in 2019, but the divorce has not been finalized and custody and financial issues remain in dispute.
