Atletico Madrid supporters have launched an online campaign to prevent Cristiano Ronaldo joining the club from Manchester United.

Ronaldo, 37, is seeking a route out of United after informing the club he wants to leave this summer if a suitable offers arrives.

The Portuguese superstar is keen to play Champions League football this season and could leave United just a year after re-joining the club from Juventus.

Atletico Madrid Fans are Against Signing Ronaldo

Ronaldo was left at home for United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia and is yet to feature for the club since Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

Chelsea, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with the forward, as have Atletico Madrid.

Reports linking Ronaldo with Atletico have angered supporters of the Spanish club, who are determined to stop their team from signing the striker that played for their rivals Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018.

Angry fans have united behind the hashtag #ContraCR7 [AgainstCR7] on Twitter to voice their opposition to the club signing Ronaldo.

Real Reason Why Ronaldo May Join Atletico Madrid

if Ronaldo stays at United, he faces a first campaign since the 2002/03 season without Champions League football, with the Red Devils only qualifying for next season’s Europa League.

Ronaldo has played in the Champions League in each of the last 19 campaigns and holds the record for scoring the most goals in it, with 141 from 186 appearances in the competition and has scored 16 more goals than any other player in it.

Former Anfield midfielder Murphy, who played for Liverpool for seven years claimed that Ronaldo is very focused on the records that he wants to achieve and the goals that he wants to score and the Champions League is the biggest platform to show your talents.

Ten Hag on Ronaldo's Possible Departure to Atletico Madrid

Ronaldo still has one year left on his current deal at United and new manager Ten Hag insists the Portuguese remains part of his plans for the season.

“We want to play in a certain way. A top player can contribute and Ronaldo is an absolute top player in our squad,” said Ten Hag.
