Indonesia New Metaverse- metaNesia

Indonesia has ordered its national Telcom provider- PT Telkom Indonesia to create a new metaverse platform namely metaNesia. The objectives are to adapt to a rapidly changing online environment frequented by a young population and encourage local businesses to improve their competency against foreign services from tech giant such as Google and Facebook.

The term Metaverse has become hot topic in the past 2 years. Adoption of this new industry has also been improved by a continuous flow of pooled investment toward Web3 products, a decentralised format of the internet, which has been famed as the next generation of the web.

“Don’t let other countries create a new world with their own payment system, while the market remains in Indonesia. Then we will regret it,” said by Erick Thohir, the Minister for State-Owned Enterprises in Indonesia on 31st July 2022.

There are few details on metaNesia about how it works and to what extent it works. Thohir said it will serve as a platform for Indonesian micro, small and medium enterprises to showcase their wares on an equal footing with large foreign companies.

He also added that the organizations will be able to provide critical social services, such as online health consultations, to more people on metaNesia.

Other than that, metaNesia also enlisted services such as “Metaverse Mall to feature shops, service centres and entertainment, as well as a Metaverse Concert for events,” the statement read.

For the next milestone, metaNesia will focus on NFT marketplace, virtual conferences, and even yoga and sporting events.
