Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad expressed doubts about the postponement of internal polls of Umno at the Langkawi Parliamentary Constituency Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering yesterday (16th May)
Tun Dr Mahathir claimed that Umno is disrespecting its own party constitution by amending the party constitution in results on delay in the poll. They used the easiest way to influence the government to delay the internal poll because they knew that Umno would be divided once the internal election.
He also said that Umno internal polls will be delayed until six months after the general election as Umno amended its party constitution.
Dr Mahathir: Not suitable for holding general election soon
Meanwhile, Tun Dr Mahathir reiterates that although the current situation of Covid-19 still under control, but it is still not suitable to hold GE15 soon.
He said that preventive measures must continue to be taken to prevent the epidemic from spreading again, and although the cases are decreasing, people still need to be careful, continue wearing masks, not gather too close, etc, otherwise, the cases will increase again.
“We have to be careful. We have to remember what happened during the Sabah state election (PRN). The number of Covid-19 cases was low at that time, but when the Sabah state election PRN was held, it led to a serious pandemic and increase in cases.”
