Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that for those car owner who overly tinted their car window, the Land Transport Authority will only fine the owner, not as rumored can be sentenced to jail.
Anthony Loke said in the Lower House of Parliament for the 2024 Budget departmental summary, if car owners want to tint their car window, they need to comply with the Motor Vehicles Regulations 1991 (Prohibition of Specific Mirrors), violators are required to pay a fine of RM 100 to RM 250 within 60 days.
No Record Of Car Owners Jailed For Tinted Windows
Anthony said, from a legal point of view, if anyone does not comply with the traffic rules and does not pay the fine, they will be charged, and once convicted will be sentenced to a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisonment for not more than six months.
He also said he had confirmed with the Land Transport Authority that there had been no cases of people being sentenced to jail for over tinted windows.
The current regulations for the use of heat-insulating film is that the front windscreen visible light transmission should be maintained at 70%, the front side mirrors visible light transmission is 50%, as for the rear side windows and rear windscreen can be fully tinted.
