The Dewan Rakyat has passed amendments to the Penal Code. Both physical and online stalking is now a crime. The amendments were passed through a majority voice vote.
Stalking Include Non Physical Manner
According to the new section 507A of the amendment, the maximum penalty for stalking is three years in prison, a fine, or both, according to Ramkarpal Singh.
The reason for including stalking in the crime is that stalking can cause fear and terror, leaving the victim injured or even dead. Prolonged harassment and stalking can seriously impact the victim's mental health.
Ramkarpal Singh also said that our country would learn from countries such as the United Kingdom and Singapore that have implemented relevant laws to ensure the implementation of the relevant legal model
Under this provision, stalking is defined as
1. stalking a person in any way or by any means
2. communicating or attempting to communicate with a person in any manner or by any means
3. loitering at a person's place of residence or place of business
4. offering or sending anything to a person in any way
