Bersih has urged the government to speed up the reform of the Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and make the appointment of the MACC chairman the responsibility of the parliamentary selection committee.

Bersih said in a statement that this is to strengthen the MACC's autonomy and remove accusations of selective crackdowns on former prime ministers and MPs in opposition partie.

The Prime Minister has mentioned that he is not opposed to reforming the appointment process. Relevant institutions have proposed detailed mechanisms, including the Bersih, the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) and Transparency International. They understand that any reform mechanism must go through the Attorney General's Office and be reviewed by the Parliamentary Selection Committee. They hope that the matter will be transparent and involve civil society organizations.
