Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Chan Foong Hin said that problems such as African swine fever and rising feed prices have led to a big drop in local pig production, so it is now necessary to diversify imported pork sources to meet market demand and thus stabilize pork prices.
Provides multiple recommendations to stabilize the pork market
Chan Foong Hin said the proposals include simplifying the documentation process for importing pork and increasing the number of foreign pig slaughterhouses certified and authorized by the Veterinary Department.
Pork and other pork products must be certified and approved by the Malaysian Veterinary Authority before being imported. This is to ensure that the food and organisms being imported are safe.
