Five Telcos Execute Access Agreements To Lease 5G Network

Despite Maxis Bhd's exclusion, reports claim that five mobile network operators met the deadline of October 30 by executing their respective access agreements with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

The access agreements are for leasing DNB's 5G network, which is currently being built out, from Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, and U Mobile Sdn Bhd.

The five telecommunications operators (telcos) will shortly start offering 5G services to their consumers as a result of the completion of the access agreements.

On Monday morning, October 31, TM submitted a press release to Bursa Malaysia regarding the implementation of the access agreements. Additionally, it is one of the four telcos purchasing shares in DNB.

The access agreements, according to TM, define the terms and conditions for the 5G service, which started retroactively on October 7 and will remain in effect until it expires on October 6, 2032.

TM said that the availability of 5G services will strengthen its position as the “preferred partner in advancing the deployment of fixed-mobile coverage via 5G and fixed broadband solutions,” with almost 2.9 million fixed broadband subscribers as of June 30.

According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, 33.2% of populous locations in Malaysia had access to 5G network coverage as of September 30. (MCMC). The government's 80% aim for coverage by 2024 will be met, the commission informed the media two weeks ago.
