Shafie said there were many interesting arguments for Najib's candidacy, but he did not want to make them public yet and would let the media know if necessary. As for whether Najib had applied to the Prison Service to come out to campaign during the general election, Shafee responded by saying, “I can't say”.

Dato' Nordin, director general of the Malaysian Prison Service, was asked whether Najib would be able to participate in the upcoming general election. He said that the prison service would not allow him to participate in election campaigning while serving his sentence.

Shafee responded by saying that this was the norm in prison and he would not do the usual things. Previously, Najib had applied to the Prison Service for permission to attend parliamentary sessions, invoking Section 31 of the Prison Act.
