Kim Kardashian was the subject of an armed jewellery heist in 2016, but the perpetrator feels no regret because she was “throwing money away.”

One of the five men accused of robbing the reality star, Yunice Abbas, described how he and his accomplices carried out the heist in an interview with Vice about high-profile robberies made possible by social media. The heist allegedly involved holding Kardashian at gunpoint, tying her up, and locking her in a bathroom at her rented apartment during Paris Fashion Week.

Abbas doesn't appear phased by the attack, even if he thinks that Kardashian was traumatised by it and that “you don't come away unharmed.”

He said to the interviewer in French, “Since she was throwing money away, I was there to collect it, and that was that.” “Guilty? No, I'm not bothered. No, I don't.

When The Times asked for comment, a Kardashian representative took some time to answer.

Abbas is one of individuals in this case who is awaiting trial, but due to his health, he was let out of jail earlier than expected. He claimed to have overpowered a security at the Hotel de Pourtales and left his DNA at the scene, which is why Vice was able to identify him.

He claimed, “I took his hands, I tied him up, and I left my DNA.” It was fairly simple to find me because I already had a record.

Abbas followed the Skims founder's travels online and on social media, along with a gang of accused attackers. Abbas provided additional information on how he and the alleged criminals obtained entry to Kardashian's apartment complex and room, much as he did in the tell-all book he wrote about the robbery.

According to Abbas, “We entered through the tiny door that was open on the inside.” “We seized control of the concierge as soon as we entered. He was defeated by us. We restrained him. But after that, we went in search of her bedroom's keys.

My two coworkers and the concierge went to Madame Kardashian's room, but I waited below, he added. “After that, they took the jewellery. They descended the steps. The secretary of Ms. Kardashian made a helpline call. However, she dialled 911 in the US, which alarmed us and caused them to lose a lot of time. And when we exited, there were numerous cops outside who were unaware of the robbery.

In addition, Abbas admitted to Vice that he only had a passing familiarity with Kardashian because to her divorcé, rapper Kanye West. He did, however, catch a glimpse of her TV programme.

I saw one of her performances where she threw her diamond into the swimming pool in the Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode, the man remarked. “I assumed that she was wealthy. This woman doesn't give a damn.

According to the Associated Press, Aomar Ait Khedache, the alleged mastermind of the theft, wrote Kardashian an apology letter from his cell, expressing his regret for his acts and awareness of the psychological harm he caused.

The 41-year-old mother of four kept a quiet profile for several months following the incident before gradually returning to the spotlight.

She opened up about the incident in 2020 during a tearful interview with David Letterman, saying she had been paranoid after the heist and had experienced stress and anxiety as a result.

She admitted that during that year, she became quite nervous about anyone finding out where she was. “I didn't even want to go to a restaurant for fear that someone would find out I was there. They'll snap a photo and send it, which will let them know that my house is open and that my kids are inside.

She said, “I was just so terrified of everything.” It has become my reality, and that's okay, because I can't get any sleep at night unless there are six security guards at my house. LA Times/Tribune News Service
